AROMATHERAPY

                                                                    What is Clinical Aromatherapy?

Aromatherapy is a form of alternative medicine that uses volatile plant extracts known as essential oils in the treatment and prevention of disease. Clinical aromatherapy is utilized around the world in the treatment of infectious disease, in pain management protocols, in anxiety and depression, Alzheimer’s, and many other health problems. At the Sebring Clinic we use aromatherapy in the treatment of Diabetes, our Detoxification protocols, our Weight Management program, and Mood enhancement.

                              How does Clinical Aromatherapy work?

The therapeutic properties of essential oils come directly from the pharmacological effects of these plant compounds on the body. There are 3 ways to absorb essential oils; through inhalation, topically, and ingestion. When essential oils are inhaled these therapeutic aromatic substances enter the body through our respiratory system, and are absorbed through membranes such as nasal, oral, and lung membranes. When essential oils are absorbed through the skin they must be diluted in carrier oils because of their concentrated nature. If not diluted they can stain and even burn the skin. One of the most popular uses of essential oils are in massage oils because they can activate thermal receptors and kill microbes and fungi. Essential oils can also be ingested, however this is not effective because they must pass through the digestive system where inactivation occurs. Therefore, we do not recommend this form of absorption.
